How to Convert PNG & HEIC to JPEG for Exam Forms

If you took a screenshot on an Android or took a photo on an iPhone, chances are your portal keeps throwing a "File Format Not Supported" error. Here is the fix.

⚠️ Format Rejections: iPhones save photos as HEIC or PNG files[cite: 14]. Android screenshots also default to PNG[cite: 14]. Most exam portals, including SSC and UPSC, exclusively accept the JPEG (.jpg) format[cite: 11, 14]. Uploading a PNG photo as a renamed .jpg file will still be detected and rejected by the server[cite: 14].

Why PNG Files Break File Size Limits

Beyond being the wrong format, PNGs cause size issues. PNG files are lossless and are typically 3 to 5 times larger than equivalent JPEG files[cite: 15]. A standard PNG might be 200 KB. Converting it directly to JPEG often brings it down to 40–60 KB without any visible quality loss[cite: 11, 15].

How to Convert Your Images Properly

  1. Navigate to the ExamReady Format Converter.
  2. Upload your PNG or HEIC image.
  3. Select JPEG output.
  4. Download the fixed file. If the file is still slightly above 50 KB, run the newly converted JPEG through the Image Compressor to accurately hit your target limit[cite: 11, 15].
