⚠️ Format Rejections: iPhones save photos as HEIC or PNG files[cite: 14]. Android screenshots also default to PNG[cite: 14]. Most exam portals, including SSC and UPSC, exclusively accept the JPEG (.jpg) format[cite: 11, 14]. Uploading a PNG photo as a renamed .jpg file will still be detected and rejected by the server[cite: 14].
Why PNG Files Break File Size Limits
Beyond being the wrong format, PNGs cause size issues. PNG files are lossless and are typically 3 to 5 times larger than equivalent JPEG files[cite: 15]. A standard PNG might be 200 KB. Converting it directly to JPEG often brings it down to 40–60 KB without any visible quality loss[cite: 11, 15].
How to Convert Your Images Properly
- Navigate to the ExamReady Format Converter.
- Upload your PNG or HEIC image.
- Select JPEG output.
- Download the fixed file. If the file is still slightly above 50 KB, run the newly converted JPEG through the Image Compressor to accurately hit your target limit[cite: 11, 15].
